Health and life sciences work from our portfolio

Published pieces from our library closest to this market, labelled by the kind of work rather than the client name. Anything produced under NDA stays unpublished.

UPMC, healthcare video by Lucid Motion Studio
Featured · Provider education

UPMC

Provider and patient education for a US health system. Work in this sector has to satisfy the audience and the review committee at the same time, which is what our production process is built around.

  • Written from material you supply and one conversation with your team
  • Storyboard review before animation, so a correction is a document edit
  • Delivered in 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16 with a captioned silent cut

Why the explanation stalls

Science is hard to explain. Animation makes it clear.

Three problems show up in almost every healthcare brief that reaches us. None of them is solved by a better stock photo.

01
Below the resolution of any lens

Molecular and cellular events happen at a scale no camera resolves and at speeds no shutter captures.

02
Inside a closed system

A device working inside the body, a fluid path inside a sealed housing, a reaction inside a vessel.

03
Processes with no physical form

A pathway, an interaction, a signalling cascade.

What we produce

What we produce for healthcare and life science teams

Six formats, grouped by the job they do. Most teams start with one, then reuse the same visual system across the rest. Format detail sits on the 3D animation and training video pages.

Healthcare professional education

Mechanism and disease-state content for a clinical audience, built from your approved sources and written at the level that.

Patient education

Pre-procedure information, condition explanation and adherence support, paced for someone who is anxious rather than curious.

Disease awareness, unbranded

Mechanism of disease and awareness content with a lighter approval route and a much longer content life than promotional material.

Medical device animation

Operation, mechanism and cutaway sequences, including the views inside the body that no camera and no photograph can provide.

Field and clinical training

Sales team, clinical educator and field engineer training, produced once and re-versioned as products and indications change.

Digital health product video

Platform explainers, clinician onboarding and adoption content for health IT, written in software language rather than pharma.

Why healthcare teams brief us

Honest about the limits, serious about the craft

Built so the work reaches sign-off instead of coming back as a rewrite.

๐Ÿ“

Every style in one place

3D for mechanism and device work, 2D and motion graphics for process and data, whiteboard for training.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ

Built to be re-versioned

Indications change, devices get new configurations, policies get rewritten.

๐ŸŒ

Multi-language as standard

Voiceover on its own track and minimal baked-in text, so a second market is a swap.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

We work to your committee, not ours

Congress dates and review windows drive the schedule.

How it works

From scientific brief to approved film

Five steps on every project, with medical review built into the middle rather than bolted on at the end.

Discover

We work from your references, your data and the person who knows the science.

Script

Claims and figures sit in marked blocks, sourced to material you supply.

Storyboard

Medical review happens here, before a single frame is animated.

Produce

Animation, voiceover, music and sound design, with revision rounds included.

Deliver

Master film, language variants, captions and versioned source files.

White-label animation production for medical communications agencies
For agencies

Your animation department, under your name

Congress is in six weeks and the studio is full. We sit behind you, so a medical communications agency can take the brief without turning it down. You keep the relationship, the branding and the credit, and your client never learns we exist.

  • No watermark, no credit, nothing of ours in file names or metadata
  • We never contact your client directly
  • Overflow capacity for launches and campaign peaks
  • Written quotes in 24 hours so you can price a pitch the same day
FAQ

What healthcare teams ask us first

How do you handle MLR or promotional review?
By assuming it from the first day rather than discovering it at the end. Scripts are written so every claim sits in its own numbered line, linked to the source document you supplied, which is what makes a reviewer's job fast. Storyboards go to review before animation, so a correction is a note on a document. Safety information and fair balance are treated as timed elements with their own on-screen duration rather than compressed into an end card. Approval stays with your medical, legal and regulatory reviewers. We build the asset to be easy for them to approve.
Can you work on unbranded disease awareness material as well as promotional content?
Yes, and it is often the better place to start together. Unbranded disease awareness and mechanism of disease content usually carries a lighter review load than branded promotional material, so a first project can prove the working relationship without a full promotional review committee cycle. Both are produced the same way on our side. The difference is in your approval route, not in our craft.
What can you not do on a healthcare project?
We do not write the science, source the references, decide what is on-label, or approve anything. We do not make medical claims, comparative efficacy statements or regulatory status statements on your behalf. We do not hold GxP, ISO or HIPAA certifications and we do not claim to. We describe our practices honestly and let your team judge whether they meet your requirements.
What formats do you produce for medical devices?
Device operation and mechanism sequences, cutaways showing what happens inside the body or inside the housing, support material that sits alongside instructions for use, field and sales training, clinical education, and congress or booth loops. Where a device cannot be filmed in use for practical or ethical reasons, animation is usually the only option that shows the thing itself rather than an actor holding it.
Can you produce patient-facing content as well as HCP-facing content?
Yes, and they are written completely differently. Healthcare professional content can carry terminology, mechanism detail and data. Patient content has to earn attention from someone who may be frightened, distracted or reading in a second language, which changes pace, vocabulary, imagery and how much you put on screen at once. Producing both from one project keeps them visually consistent and costs less than commissioning them apart.
How long does a healthcare animation take, given review cycles?
Our production time is two to four weeks for a straightforward 60 second explainer and longer for detailed 3D work. Review is usually the bigger variable, and in regulated pharma work it can add more time than the animation itself. We plan backwards from your committee dates rather than from our capacity, and we hold storyboard and script versions so a second review round does not restart the project.
